MisTree ... Constipated productions limited !!!

This is starting to get big here at SASTRA. More and more people are joining the movie makers club and each team coming up with a bigger better idea and execution.
The latest entry is that of 'Constipated Productions Ltd.' with their first movie (a rather short one) Mistree: An overgrown plant (please dont ask me what that means). The story is quite engrossing and wins your attention. The Constipated team says that the latest blockbuster Om Shanti Om has stolen a few (read one) of their concepts. You will have to see to find out.
I was not invited for the premier show but I managed to sneek a look at the movie while its still in its post-production phase. Here's what I felt about it.
The work is appreciable considering that its their first venture. The director has tried to show spontaneity by making it actually a spontaneous recording and this fact totally shows in the poor dialoge delivery and faulty coordination. The handling of the camera is anything but good. The scene which is supposed to be the climax and give the audience a shock is so badly done that I sat confused for a few minutes before I was finally able to understand the theme (acting sadly, is a very important part of film production).
Here are the good things about the movie, things that would make you watch it. The movie talks about common things that happen in and around us all the time and become the topic of discussion invariably. The involvement of a few people and names make it really interesting and make you ask so many questions (but the producers and directors deny any such story). It was nice to find that we have some actors who know how to face the camera and be natural. Aman ZEEK Verma is a bundle of talent and acting comes natural to him (as he is the biggest fan of KING KHAN). Sidhartha Bohra was good on screen and had a very natural dialogue delivery. On the whole, if you have access to the movie do watch it, its fun and short.
The best part of the movie was after it ended. Really funny and witty stuff to watch.
Good job guys but do make this just a start and give us some fantastic stuff in future.

PS: I hope they decide to put it up on youtube or something so that all of you can see the movie.

WOW-Fi !!!

So congrats to all the people of SASTRA!!! Wi-Fi is finally here !!!
It took a lot of time but all this wait ... all for good i guess. Here are the first few stats:

  • Register on sastra's website.

  • The information that you need to furnish there are MAC address, hardware specifications, a few other personal information.

  • Change the LAN settings of the Internet Options as shown in the image.

  • The good news is that the speed is good, downloads are possible.

  • There are no charges for using this facility as of now(cant predict the future).

  • Torrents wont work.

  • Orkut is still banned and even images.orkut wont work.(dont worry, someone will eventually find a way out)

So keep enjoying the net facility at hyour home and keep reading my blog and keep contributing as well.

DAKSH '08

"We are back!!!" Thats what the notice for DAKSH '08 says! It is indeed back and the number of queries and ideas that have flowed in since last night (when the notice was pasted) shows the excitement that SASTRA people have over this fest. Amazing! I heard the website is gonna be put up soon enough ... Hey, the notice also speaks about some freaky 'presentation' !!! Whats that all about ?? I guess its just a mechanism to make things better (all ideas judged in the same way, maximum chances of getting creativity out of the students is perhaps through competition even at the idea phase) ... Lets hope it all goes really well !!! Good luck ...

something in the way

its amazing how small incidents of embarrassment can change ones life... or atleast its outlook to it. well what i'l describe nw is a story where the outlook was not exaxtly changed... what does it mean...? honestly i dont know, just wanted to start writing with a gripping note...

so heres a friend of mine... i'll call him x... single like most of the people out here...(that reminds me i also have to write abt Y we are single, only straight thoughts allowed!)... and he starts a new club at our college, SASTRA university (that shud give u some idea)... anyways hes had is share of heartbreaks, or atleast thats what he says, with girls back in delhi... got stuck on one and ended up in a typical kuch kuch hota he fashion... i mean he didn marry n all but stopped at the point when he promises his girl "if we dont get a gf by the time we r out of collg, then you be mine", or something like it(my god did i just quote kuch kuch hota he...!!!)... guess hes headin there... but the only chance he couldve eascaped that fate was this junior he met at this club... so they started chatting, exchanged nos... the messages.. u know the story... n then one fine day he blows it... how... well thats wat this blog is all about...

come july n its rainy season... pretty bad time to be single lemme tell you that... but this guy had an optionn so he calls her up (y), n
X: (in messages) hey come on over to vidyut vihar, will be free n a moment then we'll discuss the script...(oh yeah started dramatics club... so the script)...
Y: sure... (then they meet upn after the hii's)
X: so its like this... the character has to be in a way insane... bla bla bla... Y:bla bla bla... blabla ... blblblba...
X: this might tak some time...
Y: yeah lets sit smwhere...
X: ok... theres a classroom...

n they push the door... only to see a couple blushing, they saw them kiss... now what happens to y... wat is she to think abt this whole incident... n wat happens to X & Y... does X go back to his miserable self n curse gods idolise curt cobain, n Y thinks that what the F*** was that... n carry on without thinking abt the ethical issues... well look forward to this space... or better still...dont look forwrd to it n fill up the rest...

n oh yeah... just to get the facts straight... there back normal again... which means there a couple of two singles...

SCANIT ELECTIONS !!!

SCANIT has elections for the executive body today at 4:00.
Jambunathan has emerged as a clear favorite for the post of Chairman. A lot of surprises emerged during the process of nomination. Manikant nominated as a candidate for the post of Treasurer, Prasoon backed out from getting nominated for Vice-Chairman. Mayank Pandey, one of the forerunners for Charimanship backed out at the last moment.
All equations are thrown open to speculations right now ... lets see what happens over the course of these few hours !!!

Strike!!

On Friday most of the inmates of SV girl’s hostel went on a strike and boycotted the mess…so strictly it was no breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea or snacks for that matter (thank goodness that breakfast and lunch in the canteen isn’t too hard on the pockets ).
But it didn’t last long, by roll call it was decided that it would be better to try and prove to the authorities the reason (insects!!!....in the food, well cooked!) why we were boycotting rather than continue with the strike and waste all the food, also many didn’t know that such a thing was even going on and quite a few didn’t care. Hopefully there won’t be a next time when we’ll loose our appetite because we see roasted flies or floating insects.

The buzz in the grapevine ...

My resources have said, "Dude ... I heard we have carpe diem dis time in aug .. then KS is for 3 days .. And DAKSH for 2 ... KS has dance and music inc ... plus it preceeds DAKSH ..."
The other things that I was able to hear were that the political corridors have become active for the leadership of KS!!!
Speaking of politics, the various associations have become electric these days ... Cuz now is the time when the Chairpersons and his/her group of executives are being decided. SCANIT has chosen the democratic way of elections. ACE still has a lot of talks going on inside closed doors. The associations of Vidut Vihar are supposed to take a decison today in the evening.

NEWS ... VERY HOT !!!

Many things have happened in the past few days!!!

  • The clubs (hindi as well as eng) have started in a grand way this time. The Dean of PnD gave the inaugural address!!!

  • The anti-ragging measures have been tightened ... 11 second year boys were found guilty of ragging a few of their juniors and have been suspended from their respective hostels!

  • The canteen has increased the prices of almost all items (excluding the lime juice!). The canteen authorities claim that the price hike in almost all the raw materials (like apple and other fruits) is the reason. This however has not cooled down the enthusiasm of any one and the canteen is as crowed as ever!!!

  • The first year population has about 40% AP junta.

  • The associations of various department are in the process of electing (appointing) their executive body.

  • The new hostel (mega) has a few troubles like no network for cell phones, the mess facilities being inadequate.

  • Orkut has been 'web-sensed'!!! (We always find a way through it though!!!)

There is No spoon!!!

Just a couple of minutes ago, while having Noodles + Daliya breakfast in the PV mes, I felt an odd sensation.. as if something was missing. I've been pondering about it since then and as I was just checkin my email, it struck me... The last time I had Noodles, it was in Spicy bite in SaharaGanj Mall in Lucknow, and then again, I had it today for breakfast. The difference was the absence of any spoon or fork... I remembered how flustered I was when the first time we had to eat Maggi with our bare hands back in our first year. But things have changed since then.. We all have become an integral part of this place and SASTRA has become a part of our lives. We might abuse it or complain about it as much as we like but deep inside, I know I love a lot of things about this place.. Dont u??

By the way did anyone else drink water from the Jug even when glasses were available on the dinner table in new mes yesterday? Or was it just me? ;)

Hybernation :(

As this semester comes to a (happy!!!) end, I have a few things to say. I may be offline from 'angularview' for sometime now since the campus news will not be reaching me :-(

  • I had a nice time posting on this blog of mine and hope you had fun reading it.

  • I may have offended some people at times for which I am sorry.

  • I am looking for a lot of contributions from the SASTRA PARIVAR in future.

  • I will be active on orkut so feel free to contact me at anytime or mail me at prasoonj@gmail.com

  • A lot of things would be happening when I'm not in the campus so if you have anything interesting to share you know what to do with it:)

  • I'm looking for a co-author for angularview, please let me know if you are interested

  • Take care and come back safe

SASTRA Blooming

First let me explain to u why i m writing all this.. Yesterday evening while me and PJ were on a stroll (to relieve for the pressure due to exams :P) we spotted out something beautiful. Yes the picture on top.. After taking the snap he felt like putting it on angular view.. but was looking for a reason, then I felt like helping him out..
Now on the words are in the point of view of a 2003-07 batch student.. with just 2-4 days more at SASTRA..

As suppose our batch saw a lot of chances in and around the campus during the past 4 years and most of them were indeed for the better..
When we arrived here in 2003 the infra structure of the college wasnt the same as now. TIFAC-CORE and SARASWATI SADAN were the sparkling new buildings in the campus. JVC and SANDIPANI were under construction. Later the foundation of Vidyut was laid.. So full fledged work was on for all the 3 builds simultaneously.. JVC was then inaugurated and suddenly from no where we spot a BIG pit being dug behind the Maruti Indoor Stadium.. This then joined the construction spree and turned out be become the VISWAKARMA JYOTH.
Many things changed then on.. Mess services got privatised.. The security services were privatised.. Roads were re-laid.. NCC was introduced.. The campus went on a Green Revolution and grass and shrubs were grown in front of various buildings.
Then came in the KRISHNA canteen. This gave a better option for people to literally eat food and also became a hang-out for people who would otherwise used the temple or the ditch.
We actually made lot of progress in many fronts.. His Excellency President Abdul Kalam was at campus.. The governor of Tamil Nadu, Surjit Singh Barnala came in twice.. Washington Accord and few other MOU were signed with various International Universities. SASTRA growth curve started matching with that of the BSE Sensex defying all gravitational laws..
Then we started our own Technical and Cultural fests - DAKSH and KURUKSASTRA. The turnout at the very first attempt surpassed PRAGYAAN and other fests in the region..
And now we know the way the syllabus and few other rules are being modified to make education at SASTRA even better.. Few more buildings are under-construction. The work of Wi-fi and the new Auditorium are lined up..
So its easy to conclude saying SASTRA is indeed blooming and very soon well establish a better identity of its own.. A college which more people will look up to and a college we will be proud to be an Alumni of..

SASTRA philanthropy !!

SASTRA always does things which are "traditionally innovative" !
This summer if you happen to be around the temple at about noon you can help youself with some refreshing 'butter-milk', the best way to beat the heat. I had it today and it was much better than the one served in the mess. The visitors can be seen thronging the place for a sip but I spotted more staff members running in with water bottles !!!
It doesn't last for a long time but a good effort nevertheless.

ALL FOR AN EXTRA POCKET !

Don't get spotted wearing any of these in the examination hall. An extra pocket can cost you Rs.100/-
Along with a lot of humiliation, wasteage of time and energy.

HOSTELer !!!

The hostel allotment has always been a very big issue in SASTRA. Lets hope everyone is satisfied this time !!!
Anyways, please help everyone find out more about your current hostel and your choice next year but taking this small survey.
The results would be put up on this same place soon.

AV := Innovation !!!

Exams ?
No material to read from ?
No book ?
No photocopies ?
No soft copies ?
Don't worry too much about it if you are in AV (Anand Vihar). This end-semester exams the people of AV saw an innovative way to share material during exams.
The idea is simple but really thoughtful. This is how you can go about:
Just take the notes or photocopy or whatever and place it under the 5-8 megaPixel camera and Whoa ... you are ready to share it on the LAN (don't say it aloud that AV has a LAN !) for the benifit of common man !!!
Kudos guys, way to go !!!

CELL PHONE IS RESTRICTED

I have a confession to make. I have become addicted to my cell phone. If there is one object that I can not imagine myself without it is it. My service provider (airtel) gives me 100 free sms in a day in the local region and I invariably close in on more than 90 sms each day; this when I have no girlfriends and am not much into forwards. If I remove the hours that I spend with my cell phone I’d surely get enough time to work on my Nobel Prize innovation some day.
But it is weird how people can really 'talk' over sms so intimately even when they choose to remain a complete mystery when you meet them in person. I know quite a lot of people who share a lot more over the 'short' messaging service than when I actually meet them. It may be the same with me as well. I have noticed myself very quiet at times in noisy places but I find myself really opening up when I write (even if it's on my cell phone).

I'm writing this one on angularview 'coz the people I'm writing about belong to SASTRA !!!

Counter Strike @ SASTRA

The Fatal Five
To an outsider, it may appear just as a game dat students play fun and time pass but trust me, it is more than that. The community might seem very small as hardly more than 50 ppl r CS players in a college of strength of over 6000. But the game has its impact on d Players. the stratergies, d discussions, d plans, d theories, d demos, d challenges , all these r just a small part of the entire gaming arena. When a CS map is hosted, d ppl 4get who dey r , and r actually a part of d Virtual World which is all about frags and gettin fragged. Spanning over all d various years and all d various departments, d gaming community links d students 2 one another. fom Magnum to CV , from M4A1 to SMG, from D2 to Nuke and from Aztecworld to Train, its all d Day and Domination and d Draggs...

d varius CS Clans at SASTRA are avD(Ananda Vihar Dufferz), e0N(ECHELON), IlluminatI, p0V(Pirates of Virginity), AdJ(Adrenaline Junkies)
Its amazing to hear that it all started just over an year ago. It all started in Jan of 2006 when fr the first time CS was introduced to the Gamers in Ananda Vihar Hostel. And since then, not a single day has passed withouta challenge, a match and a winner. CS got he boom in the July of 2007 when all the 2nd years and the 3rd years started 2 play against each other as a team.
the expirence and understanding was clearly reflected amongst the 3rd years but a fresh talent was also visible amongst the 2nd years.
The ClaNs were formed then and then CS started 2 g on its peak where it stands 2day.
All the CS players r proud of demselves, and now not only AV but all other hostels r also into CS so higly that there r various competitions organised 2 prove d domination of d particular Hostel etc..
CS creates d feeling of team-spirit, co-ordination and understanding amongst d players.
And it makes d ppl 2 think about making stratergies, plans and hence developing d various skills in people.
And it will continue 2 do so in d years 2 come.

I HATE THE EXAM TIME

Exam time is here! I've always liked the exam time but this time its more of a pain. The net in the hostel is shut down. No newspaper. And even my friends around me have started studying. Ah .. this is the worst that can ever happen to someone like me. The worst part is that I know that no one is going to see this post 'cuz all are so very busy with their preparations :(
NEWAYS, GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE READERS !!!

Activity

The campus is buzzin with activity today!! All the people of the world seem to have come to the college. This is partly true as well since all those 'lag-list' merit holders are in the campus today for God knows may be the first time!!!
The peaceful canteen is over-burdened again and I was denied my favorite Kulfi cuz of lack of place to stand inside :(

KULFI WITH A DIFFERENCE !!! REALLY !!!

Yes, you've guessed it right!!! Its called 'Kulfi' indeed. More of a deep freezed 'mithai' (milk candy), but it has a welcome chillness in it. So, there was little doubt that kulfi was going to be the next 'hottest' thing in SASTRA (no pun intended !!). This summer if you have not had a kulfi in the SASTRA canteen then you sure are either a nerd or a bio* student (this session the bio students have not been spotted in the college, all of them are pouring into their book eying the dean's list!).
The taste and the color and the texture and the chillness and the whole idea of eating something as cool as a 'desi-kulfi' is thrilling but most people need an etiquette lesson in eating that stuff.
So, next time you have your next kulfi, think of me and my blog!!!
Chill ...

THE REACTION

Instant reaction on my blog !!! The hostel net rooms have started functioning finally. I know you'd not like it that way but I do want to take all the credit .. he he he !!!

PHOTOGRAPHS AND CONTRIBUTIONS ARE INVITED FOR THIS BLOG, PLESE SEND ME AN EMAIL OR A SCRAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS 'CAMPUS JOURNALISM' !!!

LAG LIST

The much 'avaited' lag list is out now.
It was put on display in the registrar's office on 1st of May. Not as long a list as last time it still has quite a number of students from all departments with mechanical topping the charts.
Most of the students were happy with the fact that the rumour of a 'paper back' in the subject with lag was not true afterall.

HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

With the longer than usual study leave, its holiday time at SASTRA. The hot spots are the usual ones --

  • Pondicherry

  • Ooty

  • Kodai

  • Chennai

  • Coimbatore

  • HOME TOWN

The actual preparations will not start a few days before the exams so the other activities remains --

  • Movies

  • CS

  • Late night talks

  • Games

  • SMSing

The most regretted events have been the shutting down of the Hosel Net Room and the 'No Newspaper Month' starting from 1st of May.

OUT ON THE STREETS !!!

The campus is less populated these days (the study leave is longer than usual this time!!!) but more stressed out than at any other time this semester. There are troubles everywhere. Students getting involved in petty fights over offenses which were either long forgotten or such insignificant that would otherwise be just worth a good laugh. The details of the incidences are best not displayed over here !!!
The VC is working over time to solve all issues with all the patience in the world. It is a fact that inside the tough shell of the VC there's a human being who has been considerate in not taking very strict action against most of the students, he has been considerate of their future and life!!!

BEST WISHES !!!

Its that time of the year again when the top prioritiy is taken by new resolutions and seeking blessings to be able to carry them through. New Year is a special time and it has always been celebrated in the most special way in SASTRA.

The chief attraction for someone like me, who has only a 'I'm fine, how are you?' sort of a relationship with GOD and temples, was the beauty which was spread across the campus. Be it the wonderful decor of the temple, the beautiful rangoli, smart and 'beautiful' men (some in 'tide white' dhotis) or the ever so awe inspiring 'saree clad ladies'!!! I can easily be biased to announce that of all these the saree females were simply the best (since they were the irresistable lot)!
I forgot my camera when I went to the temple in the morning (actually I was blinded by the display of absolute beauty all around and my reason was thrown out of place!).

I revisited the 'activity area' sometime later and was lucky to find a group of ladies who obliged me with the rare pic for my blog.
The day was made even more special by a Tamil poem book release funtion. The book called "NAANYARIYATHA NAAN" has been penned down by an ex-student of SASTRA, Mr. Senthamarai Kannan.

Best wishes to all the readers of my blog and a little less than best wishes for those who ignore it!!!

"FOOD-FESTIVAL"

Like all occations associated with 'food' and 'festival', the 'FOOD FESTIVAL' at SASTRA organized by the mess was a total chaos. Heards of people were seen fighting for what used to be an otherwise peaceful meal on other nights. The typical characteristics were longer queues and prolonged waiting time. Incidently, there was an increase in the wastage of food as compared to other days which is bound to happen when expectations of the students (hyped by publicity which is incoherrant with the quality) are not met.
I wonder if it would be better to prepare some special food on a day and after getting a good feedback from the students to announce that it was part of a 'surprise food-festival' !!! But, this is definetly not the way to publicise a product which is basically not worth its price.
Some strange equations govern the mess in-charge(s) at this place. With the quality of food going down there is inevitably an increase in the mess bill !!! Perhaps, its time to change again. I wonder if this is ever going to change for the better.
